Workshop Announcement
NOAA’s 46th Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop will be held at NOAA’s NCWCP Conference Center in College Park, MD, USA on 26–28 October 2021. The workshop will be hosted by the University of Maryland and is co-sponsored by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and the Climate Services Branch (CSB) of the National Weather Service (NWS).
The meeting will again be held as a virtual-only meeting this year.
The workshop will focus on four major themes, with an emphasis on seasonal and subseasonal (S2S) prediction, monitoring, attribution, diagnostics, and service delivery related to:
- The development and use of climate data records, including the impacts of updating base period climate normals on defining climatological base periods, verification, and trends. Topics could also include the need for additional observational databases and improvements to existing databases, such as snowfall.
- Prediction, monitoring, and verification of extremes and extreme events related to the surface, ocean, atmosphere, land, and ice.
- Applications of modern technologies including GIS, machine learning, and software development at S2S time scales.
- Improving S2S precipitation prediction capabilities, sources of predictability, and user engagement practices for application in water resources.
The workshop will feature oral and poster presentations, lightning talks, invited speakers, and group discussions. A portion of the workshop will be dedicated to reviewing Climate Test Bed projects, accompanied by a breakout discussion to discuss best transition practices. Discounted student registration and some travel support for students may be available.
You may submit your abstract using the button below. This site is also where more information, registration details, and the agenda will be available as we approach the workshop. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility, and we look forward to a great workshop this coming October.
