Abstract Title: Evaluation of the climate models’ performance on the relationship of precipitation change over the SE US and SST changes over Pacific and Atlantic oceans
Abstract: Recent studies in determine the predictability of the drought, especially those done by the US drought working group, have shown rather different teleconnections between the sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) in the tropical oceans and droughts in US between different models. To evaluate how well each model can capture these links and their decadal variations, we apply the joint wavelet analysis to analyze the teleconnections between of the drought in SE US and SSTA in Pacific and Atlantic in the AMIP runs of three major US models, i.e., NASA NSIPP, NCAR-CCSM3.0 and NOAA-GFDL models. We also analyze a suite of models simulations forced by various SSTA patterns provided by the US drought working group, to assess the influences of SSTA and soil moisture feedbacks on the summer droughts in SE US.
